Meet Taneka Walker
Nurse Practitioner
Taneka Walker, a board-certified family nurse practitioner started The Scalp Boss to address and correct hair loss issues. Taneka has always had a passion for serving people. Her career in healthcare started when she enlisted in the U.S. Air Force as a medical assistant. Taneka was enamored with the Air Force and her career in healthcare, and she wanted more. While in the Air Force she decided to take her career to the next level.
While on active duty, she attended Wright State University and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2005, and she began her nursing career at Memorial Hermann Southeast. She still wanted to meet her goal of becoming an officer in the Air Force fulfilling her desire to serve, and answering the call by returning to active duty.
While working as a nurse she wanted to take it up to another level and she decided to pursue an advanced nursing degree. The University of Cincinnati (Go Bearcats!) offered her the opportunity to continue to serve and complete her master’s degree in Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner in 2012. Since becoming a Nurse Practitioner and a mother, Taneka sought opportunities to allow her to continue to serve her country without sacrificing being a mother, so she transferred from the U.S. Air Force to the U.S. Public Health Service in 2013. She has worked in several underserved and underprivileged areas with the most at-risk populations. She has answered the call and deployed on several missions to include Hurricane Harvey, Hurricane Irma/Maria, and the COVID-19 response team.
The reason Taneka started the Scalp Boss
“I started The Scalp Boss to address the regrowth of hair issues so many Americans are faced with. Over 80 million American both men and women suffer from hair loss. Restoring confidence one strand at a time hits home for me.” Taneka empathize with her clients as she battle thinning edges and scarring from an accident. “I understand how improving your inward feelings can impact how you feel on the inside and outside.” So, she want to provide education and support to people that want to restore their confidence.
In her downtime
Outside of being a nurse practitioner she is also a serial entrepreneur. She has bridged her passion for both healthcare and entrepreneurship to make a positive impact in her community and surrounding areas. Taneka is hyper-focused on providing inspiration, encouragement, and cultivating healthy lifestyle changes, and improving one’s confidence, self-esteem, and self-worth. She owns a specialty bakery with her family, Kai’s Baking (inspired by her daughter, Kai) that focuses on gluten-free, low-carb, and keto-friendly baked goods.
In her downtime, she enjoys watching movies with her family, brunch, and shopping with her daughter. You can find her in a gym 3-5 days a week. Her biggest accomplishment is being a mom of two. She is a proud volleyball and basketball mom.
